Specialists in EX hazardous area motor repairs
As specialists in EX electric motor repairs, we have experience in the repair and overhaul of hazardous area equipment.
When electronic or electrical equipment is intended for use in a hazardous area, it must be ATEX certified as required by two EU directives – ATEX being derived from the French 'ATmospheres EXplosives'.

The directives are:

-
ATEX 95 (94/9/EC) Equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres;
-
ATEX 137 (99/92/EC) Minimum requirements for improving the protection of workers potentially at risk from explosive atmospheres.

CASE STUDY: EX hazardous area motor repairs
Overhaul of vintage hazardous area motor
We were commissioned to overhaul this vintage British-made Lancashire Dynamo & Crypto motor. Despite its size and weight, it was rated at 60HP. To compound the challenge, it was an hazardous area motor manufactured to the old BS 229 standard.
During the overhaul, our EX qualified engineers returned it to its 1950 manufacturing standard. As part of the service, the shaft was chromed and ground to a mirror finish to extend its life.
We have repaired several such motors over the years and it is a pleasure to work on well-engineered machines. So, if yours needs a repair or overhaul, please give us a call.
