REWINDING, REPAIRING AND SERVICING ELECTRIC MOTORS FOR A CENTURY

We have been serving industry by rewinding, repairing and servicing electric motors for more than 100 years from our base in Huddersfield. These activities inspired our founder, Walter Stanley Westin, to establish Westin Drives in 1921.​ 

 

• From the late 1940’s until the late seventies, Westin continued as an electrical repairs business, but also became the market leader in fireplace surrounds and canopies. 

• Walter Westin retired during the 1960s and handed over to his sons Derek and Cyril, but still insisted on visiting the factory every morning.

• Cyril and Derek retired in 1994 and the business, along with its Phoenix Mills home, was bought by local businessman John Eastwood. Under his leadership, the business invested, expanded and flourished.

• In 2018, Westin Drives moved from a small workshop in Phoenix Mills to another former textile milll, Grove Mills, which had been rebuilt after a fire in 1948.  

• Ambitious renovation and development work was undertaken in this building to create our large service centre with its modern facilities.

As in the past, we take pride in our reputation for rewinding motors, though in recent years our focus has widened to embrace the electrical and mechanical repair of a wide range of equipment.

 

With a sophisticated service centre, we are well placed to serve customers in the Yorkshire region and beyond. So we were delighted to be named Service Centre of the Year 2018 in the awards run by the Association of Electrical and Mechanical Trades.
