![]() An HVAC problem at the Bradford office of a leading UK-based telecoms firm has been resolved by engineers from Westin Drives. The management company that services the office had noticed that hot water in the heating system was not reaching the fourth and fifth floors, causing complaints from the telecoms staff. And with the winter months fast approaching, a rapid response was required. Westin Drives engineer Fraser Lynch visited the site and quickly found the fault lay with the heating circulation pumps which were not producing enough head to reach the top floors. Their mechanical tolerances were too slack from wear and tear to generate the pressure required. Because of the mechanical re-manufacturing work required to repair the pumps, it was decided to replace the pumps with new units. Before leaving site to spec and quote the job, it was noticed that the control gear for one of the two pumps had failed, so Westin Drives was asked to upgrade all the control gear as part of the service. The two duty/ standby pumps were obsolete and from a manufacturer that was no longer in service. Therefore GRUNDFOS high efficiency modern equivalents were specified, supplied, installed and tested within 3 working days, faster than the company could even create a purchase order. Westin Drives specialises in repairing and rewinding electric motors and in designing and installing electrical control systems.
