The team at Westin Drives was told of a ‘machine controller’ coming in for repair from a Leeds quarry. They told us it was in a ‘bad state’ – and they weren’t joking.
The unit was obsolete with no replacement available. The customer had looked everywhere and was convinced it was unrepairable.
But our engineers love a challenge and they had the unit repaired and serviced within three days. The customer was soon back up and running – and the quarry's customers were not let down.
All manner of weird and wonderful things arrive at our service centre, but this repair was one to remember.
A failing bearing had created so much heat that the shaft had become molten on this belt-driven compressor motor.
A mixture of wrongly spec'd grease and over-tightened belts had caused the failure.
The fault could have easily been avoided had thermal imaging or vibration analysis been performed by our qualified engineers.
